A British man suspected of carrying out a suicide bombing in Syria lived on a street called Martyrs Avenue in the childhood home of Roy Whiting, the killer of Sarah Payne.
Police were searching the council house in Crawley, West Sussex, where Abdul Waheed Majeed lived with his wife and three children, on Wednesday as his family insisted he had left the country on an aid mission and could still return.
It is believed that Majeed, 41, drove a lorry full of explosives into a prison last week in a “martydom mission” thought to be the first suicide attack carried out by a Briton in Syria.
