World’s first diabetic cycling team vow to rebuild sport’s image after Lance Armstrong affair

An American cyclist who was diagnosed with diabetes as a baby has vowed to restore the sport’s reputation after the Lance Armstrong affair as he launches the world’s first all-diabetic professional cycling team.

Phil Southerland said Armstrong had “lied and cheated” his way to success but said the newly formed Team Novo Nordisk could inspire young people – and declared his intention to one day enter an all-diabetic team in the Tour de France.
